The reference 5016 was first introduced in 1993 and was discontinued in 2011 and is known as one of the greatest grand complication classics ever made. This example was produced in 2008 making this 5016 one of the later examples to leave the factory.
The 5016p-010 manual wind watch features a 37mm case. This is a platinum example with silver dial and Breguet Numerals and platinum tang buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, retrograde date, day, month, leap year apertures, subsidiary seconds combined with phases of the moon, and minute repeater. Reference 5016 unites in its Calatrava-style case three of the complications most highly prized by devotees of exceptional watches: the tourbillon, the minute repeater and the perpetual calendar with moon-phase display. As an additional refinement, the perpetual calendar is endowed with a retrograde date hand, which flies back to the 1st of the month after having reached the 28th, 29th, 30th or 31st under the action of an ingenious mechanism controlled by a spiral-coiled spring. Before the launch of reference 5002 Sky and Moon Tourbillon, reference 5016 was the most complicated wristwatch available from Patek Philippe. Indeed, the case design of reference 5016 is a direct descendant of the case design of reference 2499, characterized by the unmistakable sculpted lugs.
