The 5204R-001 perpetual split chronograph manual-wind watch, features a 40 mm case. This is a rose gold example with silver dial and rose gold deployant buckle. Functions include moon phase, month, day, date, hours, minutes, seconds sub-dial, day/night indicator, leap year indicator, perpetual calendar, and split chronograph.
Introduced at Baselworld 2012, the 5204 is the successor to the 5004, featuring a 40 mm case. While the 5004 was most often seen with Arabic numerals, the 5204 features luminescent applied gold baton markers instead. The dial is intelligently configured setting the stage for one of the most popular and useful functions of a grand complication wristwatch. The reference features all the traditional assets that impress true connoisseurs yet the most modern representative of its category.
The split-seconds chronograph is one of the three most difficult complications to master, alongside the tourbillon and the minute repeater. It takes a highly sophisticated mechanism to control the two chronograph hands, one of which may be stopped to measure an intermediate or lap time or retain a reference time while the other continues its course unaffected, even by fractions of a second. When released again, the split-seconds hand instantly catches up with the primary hand and the two stacked hands move on together.
