The 5970J-001 yellow gold, perpetual chronograph, manual-wind watch, features a 40mm case and yellow gold deployant buckle. The functions include hours, minutes, seconds, month, day, date, moon phase, perpetual calendar, and chronograph.
The Ref. 5970 was produced in 2005 replacing the smaller diameter Ref. 3970. The Ref. 5970 reverted to the case style of the first series Ref. 2499 with sculpted shoulders and square chronograph pushers. The Ref. 5970 in rose gold and in white gold were discontinued in 2007. In 2008 Patek Philippe released the much-anticipated yellow gold Ref. 5970 then promptly discontinued the model after only 1 year with the release of the platinum version in 2009. The platinum version was discontinued within a similar time period.
The Patek Philippe Ref. 5970 was perhaps the most successful of the recent models. With Philippe Stern stepping down as president of the company in 2009, the same year the final platinum version was launched, the model could be considered as his legacy to the success of Patek Philippe.
