This Iconic Patek Philippe Ref 3970EP-021 Fourth Series Platinum Perpetual Chronograph Is Complete. Accompanied with its certificate of origin, second case back, setting pin, hang tag, instruction manual and presentation box. This 3970EP-021 is in excellent condition with very crisp and legible hallmarks. This late example is from 2004 the final year of production.
The 3970EP-021 perpetual chronograph manual wind watch, features a 36 mm case. This is a platinum example with silver dial, and platinum deployant buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, month, moon phase, leap year indicator, 24 hour indicator and chronograph. includes a sapphire crystal, screw down winding crown, round chronograph push buttons, and a screw down sapphire crystal case back.
The 3970 was created following the success of the exceptional Ref. 2499. The design of the case of Ref. 3970, with its down-turned, fluted lugs, is clearly influenced by the form of the Ref. 2499. One main difference between the two models is the addition of the leap year indicator to the 3 o'clock subsidiary dial and 24-hour indicator to the 9 o'clock subsidiary dial. The Ref. 3970 is now considered a classic by collectors, following in the footsteps of its predecessors Ref. 1518, Ref. 2499. One can distinguish three series in the production of Ref. 3970. A series is defined by variations in case designs or features. Following on from the iconic reference 2499, the 3970 was produced from 1986 to 2004. Produced in 2000, this example belongs to the third series.
